The Masthead
Everything the Gazette runs on a schedule lives here. Some columns
are running or about to start. Others are resting until the time is
right to bring them back. Each one links to its full archive, so
when you want the whole run of something, this is where you find the
door. New here? About the Gazette is the better place to start.
Current & Upcoming
Worldbuild Wednesday
The flagship column. Each month takes a single worldbuilding theme
and digs in: what to think about, what to keep track of, and what it
connects to across the rest of your world. The foundation the rest
of the week builds on.
Writing Wednesday
The companion to Worldbuild Wednesday. It takes the month's
worldbuilding and asks how you actually use it in a story: the good,
the bad, and how to tell when you have gone so far down the
worldbuilding hole that the story stopped. Starting soon.
Show, Don't Tell
A bite-sized piece of fiction built from the month's Wednesday
topics, so you can watch the madness the method produces instead of
just reading about it. The columns tell you how. These show you.
From Grathew's Desk
Notes from the desk. What I am working on, what is coming to the
Gazette, and what I am looking forward to across the wider world of
fiction. The closest thing to a letter from me to you.
Interviews
Conversations with authors about the worlds inside their work. The
worldbuilding, the choices, the things that never made it onto the
page. Always looking for new writers to talk to, so if that's you,
get in touch.
New Year New Starts
An annual challenge, every December into January: write three story
starts and plant them in your granary. It's practice for the thing
so many writers struggle with most, getting a story off the ground,
and it's where a lot of my own seeds come from. Read the ones I've
planted, then go start three of your own.
On Hiatus
Resting, not gone. These ran before and may run again. The archives
are still open if you want to read what's there.
Mailbag Monday
Questions answered, on a Monday. Worldbuilding, storytelling, or
whatever else needed an answer. It went quiet when the questions ran
out, but the mailbag is still here for when there are enough to fill
it again.
Sci-Fi Saturday
Worldbuild Wednesday's monthly theme pushed into science fiction,
chasing the questions that only come up out among the stars. Shelved
for now, with an eye on bringing it back as a sci-fi think piece.
Fantasy Friday
The same idea aimed at fantasy: the month's theme taken into magic,
kingdoms, and the questions only fantasy raises. Shelved alongside
its Saturday sibling, and just as likely to come back.
