From Grathew's Desk
Ep. 6
Hello everyone it’s been a little bit.
First things first, what have I been up to? I’ve been put in charge of setting up a podcast, The Conspiring Lemurs’ Podcast soon to be up wherever podcasts go. Expect it early January. I have also working on the rest of my New Year, New Starts entries. I haven’t finished my second although I am close on both two and three. January’s chapter of Noah Bannon is almost done, with a second planned out. The opening to Project Ghost is outlined I need to work my way though it. I have also decided it will go up in March. Until then I’m going to attempt to figure out what, or how to create a buzz for it’s future release. I am wrapping up both of the short stories for this month. I have also been pulled into two more anthologies, and started a comic. I simply made some introductions. When it goes up I’ll let you know. Should be an interesting little comic.
Now for why I’m taking December off. I ran out of buffer. For those who are used to listening content creators talk about the behind the curtain the concept of a ‘content buffer’ may be a known one. For those who haven’t heard of it, it’s when a content creator, such as myself, gets a head of their release schedule by a few weeks/months. The length of this buffer will depend on what, how and who. I am going to try and get a month a head on the other regular series Meaning that when January starts I’ll be writing February’s content. Currently I’m not gaining much ground due to wanting to finish up the short stories, and New Year, New Starts. However I am taking some time off and will hopefully be getting more time to write. Meaning that buffer should be easy enough to get built up. With that built up it should make running this easier going forward.
As I’ve been looking around the substack world and there seems to be a ‘monetize for the holidays’ undercurrent I’ve fallen into. No idea if it’s just me or if it’s something larger. My substack algorithm is rather chaotic. Regardless I am turning on the subscriptions January, as per my plan. The subscription is mostly early access, the only exception will be my published short stories. They will be going up behind the pay wall when I can, meaning the current selection will be the two from In the Midst of a River and the one in Marathonarium 2. However it will mostly be early access to whatever is pending. Meaning when I finish a Worldbuild Wednesday, Noah Bannon chapter, or anything else, no matter when it will be releasing to the public it will be released to the subscribers. The only exceptions will be interviews, and challenge submissions for hopefully for self evident reasons. I know I keep bringing this up and you’re probably tired of hearing about it. I know there will be someone who will see the ‘subscribe to gain early access to my articles’ and be completely blindsided. Thus I will keep talking about it here. I’ve decided on a price, $10/month. Which for the roughly 20,000 words I’m setting as cadence sounds fair.
My attempt to not blindside the unobservant aside I am looking forward to this next year. This year’s New Year, New Starts has been the biggest so far. For those of you participating thank you. I am looking forward to seeing what you all come up with. If you haven’t heard of New Year, New Starts I’ll link it below. I would love to see what you come up with for it. This means that on New Years there will be a lot of new story starters dropping. I’m hoping to have to spend a good few days reading and linking to them. I even spun up a sub-substack for it. I’ll link that also below.
In the nearer future my second interview, with Maeve Brooks, will be going live tomorrow at 7pm EST. I would check it out. Maeve has a very interesting world and makes good use of it in Thread and Stone, I would recommend picking it up. Although I can understand waiting for the interview first.
With that I think I’ll see you all Christmas Day when The Girl in Green and High Rollers will go live.
