From Grathew's Desk
Ep. 4
It has been a busy two weeks. I’ve been writing a lot, most of which will be revealed in the not to distant future. Earlier this week on Veterans Day, I got featured in two places. A guest spot over on Founding Questions, a interesting and curious blog with a rather loud group in the comment section. If you are looking for a brutally honest old man’s opinions on the state of the world and a bit of “Old man yells at clouds” you may enjoy it. I was also on the Never Ending Radio Show video podcast, where you will realize why I prefer to do most of my communication via the written word. Rich has already invited me back, which is about as much as I can say at the moment. Rich is a voice actor who does audio books, In addition to running The Never Ending Radio Show, his most recent The Dead Man’s Flood entered the top 40 on audible recently; I enjoyed it. I would keep an eye on The Never Ending Radio Show. I got to talk with Rich behind the scenes and he has some amazing plans. I cannot wait to see them reach the public.
My expeditions aside I was slightly disappointed in the turnout for last week’s Fantasy Friday. Perhaps it was a bit too specific a topic, although I suspect most of you don’t know what that was. Gromito if you haven’t read it I’d suggest it as you inspired it. Back to Gazette business, I am thinking about theming Fantasy Friday and Sci-fi Saturday going forward as I already have this upcoming Sci-fi Saturday outlined and it isn’t food related. I am on the fence. I can see the usefulness each direction. If you would rather just send your comments to me, either on the theme, suggestions, questions, topics you want covered, and don’t want to be in the public eye that is the comments:
My goal is to make the Gazette something that helps you make better stories so let me know. I will make no promise to respond; I’ve learned from the mistakes of various internet people. I will read all of them. Don’t be shy.
Moving on to the rest of November The Girl in Green is going though my long and treacherous proofing process, then it should be good to go. There is a surprise now attached to it, I’m quite pleased with how that is turning out. I am going to keep that card fairly close to my chest, at least for the time being. I should be done around the 20th, if not sooner. High Rollers is fully plotted out however at the moment I’m finishing The Girl in Green. There should be time to order a copy In the Midst of A River and get it in your hands to read the prequel Saturday Night which is in there. I was contemplating doing a Thanksgiving Short Story, and still am, although I am unsure how to theme it. Halloween was easy: do something horror. Even if I’m not 100% satisfied in how Josie turned out (embedded at the bottom). It’s good, got solid bones, yet I feel it didn’t resonate the way I wanted it to now that I have some time to reflect on it. Things to think about for next year. I do have the plans laid out for this upcoming and next week’s Worldbuild Wednesday. I think they will fit in well with Thanksgiving coming up.
As we look further forward into December I have an interview in progress that will be going live in December. I hope to do more interviews. It gives an insight into how others write and worldbuild and I get to feature another author. Honestly getting to use this platform to help promote someone else is the most exciting part of doing this. I am going to once again give forewarning: New Year New Starts is coming back for the end of 2025. I’ll embed last year’s slightly misnamed post as reference. It will be similar however I’ve refined both the format a little, got a challenge theme, and expanded upon why I think it’s a good idea. This year it will start Dec. 1 and run till the 1st of January 2026. Other than that I have narrowed down theme for December I’m unsure how hard I want to go into the “New Year” bit.
Past that It looks like I will have even more going on in 2026 than I first thought. On the one hand it should be good fun and I suspect it should help me grow as a writer, and a creator in general, on the other shoe I’m going to be busier than ever. Between Noah Bannon, Worldbuild Wednesday, Project Ghost (I’m still working on it’s real title), the Monthly Short Story, Sci-fi Saturday, Fantasy Friday, and There and Back (also needs a final title); I am going to be doing a lot of writing. Thank you for being a subscriber to the Gazette, and thank you for reading.
